The job duties of aeronautical drafters can seem very complex. With proper training and a solid education, these job details are actually quite entertaining and enjoyable, but college programs require a lot of math and science courses making it hard for some students to complete the program for their degree. Most people interested in drafting must also enjoy working with computers and drawing figures on a daily basis.
Aeronautical drafters are responsible for creating the blueprints for airplanes, space craft, missiles, helicopters, and other airborne vehicles. They draw up the plans for others within the field of aeronautics to view, offer suggestions or corrections, and then send to manufacturing engineers so that the blueprints can be turned into the real thing.
Drafting classes are critical in this career. There is far more at stake, however. Those working in drafting plans of this nature must be able to work with many others within the aeronautics field. They will work closely with manufacturing engineers, design engineers, and other specialists involved in turning someone's idea into a real life aircraft. It isn't easy work. Aeronautical drafters must be ready for a number of individuals to critique their sketches and make changes frequently to gain final approval. Those with short tempers or who like things to go perfect the first time will not enjoy this job.
Aeronautical drafters must have knowledge of the CAD (Computerized Drafting) software. They will work long hours behind drafting boards drawing their designs. The work of aeronautical drafters can be very detailed and many who have been in drafting for a number of years find it is extremely hard on the eyes and carpal tunnel syndrome is another issue. Those looking into this field must consider these risks and make sure they are using correct wrist posture and wearing glasses to prevent eyestrain.
