Avionics technology deals with the study and mastered use of computers in aircraft and spacecraft systems and to gain an avionics technology degree one must really enjoy math and computers. This is not an easy field to enter because it does rely heavily on advanced math skills. Courses like algebra, calculus, and trigonometry are often required. Computers are a major part of the job, so those enrolling in this program must be comfortable working with computers constantly.
Students must be aware that an avionics technology degree requires a full four-year college education. The work can be very rigorous, but the wage scale is much higher starting out than in other careers. In the first year alone, it is typical for a course load to include courses in Advanced Math for Engineers, Aeronautical Design, Aeronautical Engineering, Digital Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Microprocessors, and Systems Design.
By the time the college program ends, students will have taken courses in Aerospace Applications, Aerospace Technology, Aircraft Engineering, Aircraft Maintenance, Avionics, Engineering Management, Computer Modules, Management Skills, Professional Development, and Public Speaking. These do not even include other necessary courses to gain an avionics technology degree. On top of the specialized course load, credits in Physical Education, English, Literature, History, and Science area also required.
For those who have an aptitude for math and science, a career in avionics is an excellent choice. Air traffic is steadily increasing and scientists are involved in ongoing research to find other living organisms in space. While demand for skilled workers increases, those holding an avionics technology degree will find that there is no limit to the number of jobs out there. As job offers come pouring in, those holding this specialized degree will discover just how easy it is to find a job they love at a salary that makes life extremely comfortable.
